every sunday my pastor likes to make sure that he gives us two or three applications to each sunday’s scripture passage. this is always my favorite part of the sermon, don’t get me wrong i love the whole sermon, but if i can’t apply it to my life now what’s the point? anyways i really liked this last one so i thought i would share it with you all…
‘are you preaching to help people live for today (in todays society, culture, to have a better life now) or are you preaching to prepare people for eternity?’
‘is God being praised by other people because of things that you are doing? (Matthew 5:14-16)’
wow… deep stuff. but something that we all need to ask ourselves every once in awhile. it doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing the questions still apply. i guess that’s why i do the things that i do. i feed off of these kinds of deep questions. i love the challenge. if you are doing the samething today that you’ve been doing for the last five years, what’s the point? times are changing, shouldn’t we. if you’ve been reading the world racers blogs they’ve been talking about being unoffendable… about how we present ourselves to others being our responsibility… well we are representing Christ everywhere and at all times…. if someone had never heard the stories about Christ, but was told that he was a lot like you, what would people think Christ was like? sure i will never fully be exactly like Christ until i am by his side in heaven, but i can show people that the beauty and possitive things in my life are because of Christ.
i am having a huge yard sale this weekend to help fund my time in swaziland, i’ve even started posting stuff on craigslist to sell because my living room is to full… it’s been awesome to share with people why i am going and why i am having the yard sale. people are always amazed at the things that i do and why i do them, but why?… my life should be the normal not the extraordinary. when we begin to put these simple applications that my pastor shares with us every sunday morning into practice we all begin to live the life that we think is only for the few ‘chosen ones.’
